Consul General's Message
Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Hong Kong and Macao issued a message on the occasion of 42th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of Iran
In the Name of God, the Compassionate the Merciful Today marks the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of Iran which proved to be a turning point in various political, economic, and social spheres of my beloved country; not only in its modern history but also in its whole narrative since its creation on the planet. The following describes how: Independence: For the first time in Iran's modern history, Head of the State was elected by its own people, not selected and empowered by the foreign governments. the State decisions started to be made within and by our own elected officials not in Washington and by aliens; for the interest of our nation not necessarily others'. That means we are now independent and a true sovereign State; Freedom: Major democratic indicators, factors, and procedures such as nationwide elections and national referendums at all levels of political structure substituted monarchy with corrupt monarchs, their civil appointees, and their associates, as well as inheritance of throne which used to be running for at least 2500 years before the revolution; Islamic Republic: Republicanism and Reference to the People's vote that are mostly Muslims which in turn formed the foundation of the political system after 1979's revolution replaced an authoritarian and totalitarian regime which would otherwise overlook the people's opinion in its grip; Territorial Integrity: Iran has not waged a war either against any of its neighbors or beyond its borders for the last 250 years. But even when the enemies imposed a war like the recent one through Iraq in September 1980 as they saw an Iran weakened by natural turbulence of the revolution, they spared no effort to uproot the revolution and Iranians national unity.  However, for the first time in Iranian history despite the past 250 years or so, not only Iran was not defeated in a war (8 year Iran-Iraq Holy Defense), but also appeared triumphant, and by utilizing its newly and spiritually-changed social and human resources in the course of revolution, preserved its complete territorial integrity without an inch of it gone. The above-mentioned are just a few elements -the major politically fundamentals though- out of a pool of elements to gauge the affirmative changes and development after the Islamic Revolution occurred in the country. To understand the differences between the pre-revolution and post-revolution, one can easily look at numerous advances which I am not able to count and explain in this short space. It suffices to watch only one trend which transparently indicates that according to the world statistics, Iran's scientific progress pace is 11 times that of the average global rate; out of which between 80% to sometimes 100% is attributed to women only. Nowadays women comprise more than 80% of the scientific community and university graduates in all majors and all degrees from bachelor to doctorate and notably Youth Female Literacy rate is 97.93 as of 2016, in a country that used to have only a 42.33 literacy rate in 1976 (three years before revolution). Women have also occupied a large portion of job occupancies in Iranian society today. Statistics speak for itself. Only a few points: First: All the progress leading to the prosperity we expect, has been achieved whilst we were under the strictest unilateral and multilateral sanctions ever seen in the world made and spread by the United States of America and its allies that had lost its strongest fortress in the region, as well as under an eight-year war imposed on us which costed us -roughly estimated- 1000 billion US Dollars (more than 7000 billion HK Dollars) and 290,000 lives not mentioning other casualties. Without sanctions and the war, we would not have had the steam and confidence needed to study and work harder and try to stand on our own feet. Second: Regardless of the Shah's (Monarch's) huge dependence on the West and his personal and social deficiencies which was the core source of all other shortcomings and disabilities in pre-revolution Iran, it is only enough to compare pre and post revolution situations of Iran by the very famous instrument of “Business As Usual” (BAU) scheme. What would have happened had the Shah not been overthrown so far? If so, BAU scheme substantiates that we would be enormously less prosperous today, extensively dependent on outsiders specifically the USA, not allowed to express our ideas freely without fear, disable to defend our beloved country by ourselves, ... Third: If there is any doubt of what has been referred to in this statement, one can easily browse the internet reliable sources including United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Human Development Index just to conclude a concept how the Islamic Republic of Iran has advanced since 1979. To have a holistic and opened-eye idea, we need not to look at the stand-alone figures but to compare them with what shows how we used to be before 1979. Now the question is how Hong Kong can engage itself in this line of prosperity and get benefit out of it for itself? To make it short: Iran enjoys large and too low-cost natural resources (The fourth largest proven recoverable oil reserves of 317 billion barrels which at least would last for 145 years if no new reserve was added. The first largest natural gas reserves in the world which can fuel less polluting policies for the governments favoring environment preservation through carbon-neutral features, dual circulation, ...) Hence Iran produces from crude oil to LPG, from chicken legs to hand-woven and machine-woven carpets within the country with very competitive prices; we possess huge highly educated human resources; tremendous facilitated trade, financial, economic, and investment opportunities with its neighbors and beyond; untapped fortunes, the well-developed, cheapest and shortest transport corridors that connect the world to the Central Asia and Caucasia with 645 million population including Russia and Iran; etc. Let me give you two instances: One Liter of gasoline in Iran at the free market price is being sold for US$ 0.124 which actually translates into HK$ 0.93 that is roughly 1/19 of the current gasoline price in Hong Kong. Dentistry services with the highest quality in the world are sometimes as cheap as HK$ 1000 for a single tooth implant. More interestingly, no Visa is needed for Hong Kong, Macao and Mainland Chinese passport holders for 21 days upon each arrival. We still have long way to go, much work to do, and more new generations who have no idea of how much we suffered, lost, and strived for a better life, to serve. Let’s increase the knowledge, travel the mileage, share the growth of the heavenly village, and grab the package, before it becomes an age.
